AI Literacy Unplugged: Insights From K–12 Teachers in the Know

Recorded July 3, 2025

As AI technologies become part of everyday life, how can we ensure that students and educators are prepared to understand them and use them critically and responsibly? In the AI Literacy Unplugged: Insights From K–12 Teachers in the Know webinar, four K–12 education practitioners share how they are navigating both the opportunities and challenges of integrating AI tools and promoting AI literacy in education.

Moderated by Dr. Nonye Alozie at SRI Education, the conversation spans classroom, district, and policy perspectives. Panelists discussed student agency, professional learning, and the evolving role of teachers in the age of AI. They emphasized the importance of viewing AI as a supportive tool rather than a threat, and the need to design meaningful, relevant learning experiences that reflect this mindset.

Panelists included:

  • Gabrielle Kring, 9-12 English Teacher at Sampson County Schools
  • Vera Cubero, Emerging Technology Consultant at NC Department of Public Instruction
  • Josh Ecker, Ed. D., Learning Design Coordinator at Chester County Intermediate Unit
  • Juan D. Gutiérrez, Ph.D., Interim Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Pathway and Multilingual Programs at University of Massachusetts Boston

Watch the full conversation for candid reflections, practical examples, and forward-looking strategies that support AI literacy across the education ecosystem.
